| If it affects your ability to work and your ADLs, you should definitely apply. Some people can work with their disabilities, so you need several doctors opinions stating that you cannot work. Its best to get lots of documentation and start now by getting a work slip saying you cannot work from your doctor. Either way, put in your application as soon as possible. Social Security Update help!? I received letters from various college stating that they cannot construct a financial aid package for me because they can't prove my citizenship using my social security number (I'm a neutralized citizen). How can I prove my citizenship since never took the time to apply for a passport? What documents can I give them? | If you are a naturalized citizen, you should have a certificate of naturalization, which is sufficient proof of citizenship. Social security does not keep your naturalization status on record, nor divulge that information for the asking to other organizations. If you have lost your certificate of naturalization, you need to go to the Bureau of US Citizenship and Immigration Services (formerly INS) and see about replacing that.
