Look, you open yourself to some problems. You should not put anything of this sort for public consumption without properly registering it. Tell you why: Good lyrics are snapped up pretty quickly. If it becomes famous, you have no claim to it and then you are not going to be a happy camper. What if, this becomes a multimillion dollar seller? - and you have no recourse to collect it. It depends on context. General or prevalent usage does not necesarily legitimise bad English. Incidentally your answer to another question where you have suggested that 'like' is a substitute for different forms of the verb 'say' is totally erroneous. The 'sentence' the questioner has asked about is so magnificently ill-structured that it takes time to comprehend and with no context in which to place it (no textual commentary and it is not part of a larger scripted dialogue or transcript of a conversation) we must take it at its 'effective' face-value. "Idioms" are expressions which function as a single unit, that is, the sum of its parts means something else. For example, the expression "to rain cats and dogs" means "to rain heavily" (that is, it does not mean that cats and dogs are falling from the sky). You see, using the present continuous verb tense means that the sun got itself to shine and continued, and you were able therefore to go (wherever). OR As the sun shone . . . shone = while and during the time of the sun's shine. . .slightly different meaning and only you, the writer, can decide. You pick your meaning and use the correct words. I think it depends on the usage: if you mean that light is emitted or reflected, it is shone, i.e. The sun shone, the shoes shone. if you mean that an action is performed to make something more shiny, it is shined; i.e. he shined the car and it shone. I don't think you would ever say "he shone his shoes" or "he shone the car". JMHO...(Answered by spongeworthy_us)
