| It's impossible to judge a situation when I only hear one side of the story ~~~ but I would like to try to make a couple of suggestions so you need not go through this type of painful situation again. Expect a negative response when ever you challenge someones opinion. We all fight back when our opinion is questioned, especially by someone who is less educated or younger than we. I feel the teacher did not have the right to pick on another student in front of the class ~~~ he should know better. But it's not your place ...(Answered by scottyusa1) | |

In what ways can we promote tolerance and expel ignorance among teens? I have recently taught teens who had very strong views (with not justification) against homosexuality use derogatory terminology (mostly heard in song lyrics) - one 13 year old refers to himself as a "pimp" 'cause he thinks it's cool, not because he really is or because he really understands its implications. I'm a new teacher and am shocked everyday at the things I hear. If you are a teen, I'd love to hear from you especially....but all answers welcome! Thanks! ... (Asked by curious cat) |

| unfortunately as you know children learn what they live and the behavior starts in the home. The parents are the first that need education, but that probably won't happen. Just do your best to reinforce the positive and let them know what is not appropriate. I work with kids and find they usually are open to positive suggestions---good luck...(Answered by sandi c) | |

What should I do? Today, in Anatomy and physiology class, I was so nervous when the teacher was talking about a lot of lecture stuff. The teacher was talking to all the students when he was standing besides me. I started talking to myself because I was too nervous that all of the students was focused on where I was sitting because the teacher was talking from closer to me. The whole students in class was in shocked. NOw, everybody, well, the people who saw me talking to myself will think I'm crazy. They all had this shocked face. I was so scared ... | Kareena! I think you are very shy and having the professor stand near you, put you in in the spotlight and you did what your brain told you to do to cope with this situation. Why do you care what other people think - in a few months, they will not even be part of your life. Nervousness takes many forms. Some people laugh, some cry, some mumble, some fidget, some sweat profusely, heart beats like crazy... so what, who cares?? The worst thing you could do is to try to explain yourself to others. Act as if nothing happened. ...(Answered by biker babe)

Do schools in the United States teach about Internet safety? I see a lot of young girls and boys on here "shopping" for friends and signifigant others. They will say things like "I'm 15 and a girl, i really need a boyfriend in the San Diego area." or "I'm 16 and lonely, and need someone to talk to" If parents are not going to educate their children on Internet safety should the schools play a larger role. I saw a question earlier today about whether or not teen girls get pubic hairs and what they are like...it was too graphic for just being curious and too ignorant to be taken seriously. ... | Ask your students to share their travel experiences with you and what they found "shocking" or different about the places they went. If they haven't traveled, ask them to research a country which they would imagine is VERY different from their own. Identify the ways it is different and try to imagine what it would be like to go there. Personally, I experienced culture shock in India. There were SO MANY people I was overwhelmed. I was not given a fork or knife to eat with and noticed that most people used one of their hands. ...(Answered by Pegasus)

Are a lot of Realtors unethical? I've had some bad experiences and was shocked.? In CO or ANYWHERE is it true that the basement is not counted as "living space" and therefore not included in the listed square footage of the house? Or was the realtor I was using Bullsh*tting me? I feel like she lied to me and ripped me out of 10,000 or more (I could be wrong) and also she said that if the buyers were getting the home through HUD or FHA that I, yes, I, had to pay the 4K closing costs. Oh, and she didn't even count the bathroom in the basement as a 3/4 bath in ... (Asked by elizabreed2001) |

| Here near SF, California, at least, you need to have permits to count the square footage of your basement. You can't count the bathroom's square footage either unless you have permits for it. I'm not sure about the HUD or FHA part of your question. It doesn't seem like your agent is being unethical. Why don't you ask your agent directly, so you can clear things up for yourself? Your agent seems fine to me. The problem here may be miscommunication. Perhaps due to you being away?...(Answered by Mr Real Estate) | |

Should they drug-test public school teachers? I say YES! I have had teaching jobs and I'm shocked--you have to pass a drug test to work in an office or factory, but not to work with children! And then we are shocked to hear every few months or so of a teacher selling drugs to kids!! In case you're wondering, no, there is no drug testing prior to starting employment. Scary stuff. ... Job Application: how to write an explaination of why I was a non-reelect teacher? I'm filing out job application forms for a teaching position and keep seeing this question pop up Have you ever resigned in lieu of being non-reelected or dismissed by a school district? This is a yes to for me. In January I was told by my new principal that he was not reelecting me for rehire next year. He believed that I was a good teacher. I was shocked by this because I changed grade leveles went from 2nd to 5th grade a month into the school year for him because he said thats what team players do. I had ... (Asked by Rita C) |

| I am really torn by what you should say, I believe in the truth, and the truth is that I don't see anything on your question that indicates that any of this went on your permanent record. It was an in house problem (I had one, too) and had nothing to do with the quality of teacher you are. Most school districts check with the main Office and base their hiring on what's in your employee folder. Any assessments will be in there and as you said he said you were a good teacher and you are finishing ...(Answered by lakelover) | |

If a teacher curses at me and I am offended what should I do? It hasn't happened yet but I'm afraid I might have teachers that curse next semester. I was shocked the first time I heard a teacher tell us "Your grades suck!" but after that someone told me that her teacher curses and called her a b*tch. If a teacher called me a b*tch I would be very upset by it. Idk how many teachers curse but I will get cussed out by a teacher or something next simester, so if that happens what should I do? Don't give me any of those "Studens curse all the time, why shouldn't teachers?" answers ... (Asked by SqU!Rr3L) |

| If they do that and you are offended, then stay after class and try to express to them that their vocabulary is offensive not only to you but possibly to some of the other students. If they blow you off, go to the Principal, Vice/Asst Principal, or Dean of Students. They should be able to assist in toning them down. Teachers should be role models for young minds. Not encouraging them to curse like sailors. But keep in mind also, that occasionally, many people will let one slip who don't normally use that language. So, if it isn't a normal ...(Answered by Goyo) | |
