What is the origin of soda, pop, cola, etc.? Also, where did hoagie, sub, hero, grinder etc. come from? With the holiday coming up I thought it would be interesting to share the differences in our local lingo. What do you know about the differences and origins of the popular terms for carbonated beverages like soda and sandwiches on buns/bread? I know it depends on where you live but, why do you call it by a certain name? I had a weggie in Pittsburgh that was actually a folded pizza crust, stuffed with meat and cheese. Why do we say 'best thing since sliced bread' ? When in the grand scheme of things sliced bread isnt really that great ? ok, I buy unsliced bread and cut it myself...So maybe I dont fully appreciate the wonders of sliced bread.
