ethnic divisions: somalia is a country divided by two big "religions", not believers, and cristianism, which are the people with more money. Natural disasters: poberty, AIDS, flood and the droughts. literacy rate: 1%. helth problems: Aids, hungry and all that ones that are transmmited and the last: tourist should be careful of the confrontaionjs of both religions Altough I do this for help, 10 points wont be bad for me =)...(Answered by richard)

In the story, Askar is on a self-defeating search for a unified self-hood (remember, he was born Somali, but raised by a woman of another group in a disputed area of Ethiopia), Askar's "self" is created by the conflicts within him, by him constantly splitting apart, constantly judging, accusing, and defending the different parts of himself. This is a metaphor for Somalia itslef which has also been split into many factions on its quest to become a unified nation.
