Q.
starting college as freshman spring semester vs. fall semester?
I am thinking about taking a semester off before I go to college. I was wondering if I start in the spring instead of the fall will I feel behind or detached from the other students that started in the fall? ... (Asked by axeps2)

If you are living on campus, you will feel detached if you start in Spring. People form cliques very quickly, especially when they are living together. Everyone will be moving in in the Fall, so you would have to fit yourself into that dynamic (instead of with a group of other freshman). If you plan on living off-campus or commuting to school taking a semester off won't matter....(Answered by yet_another_realist)

Q.
Admitted to college in the Spring of 2008? or a University of Maryland student?
I was admitted to the University of Maryland for the Spring of 2008 even though I applied for Fall of 2007. Is it possible to go to another college, not a community college but say George Mason for the first semester then transfer my credits and start at Maryland? Would this be too much trouble? Would I get a dorm? I don't know what to do...Maryland is the best school I was accepted to. Tell me if you go to Maryland College Park or if you ever went to a school that you were accepted to for Spring. ... (Asked by badahdahda)

This person does not know what they are talking about. Consider yourself somewhat lucky that you got in spring 08. Ever since UMD won the national basketball championship in 2002 the admissions has been very competitive. I applied last year for fall 06 and watched many of my friends get the spring semester, while I got flat out rejected. I decided to go to Penn State instead but always kept UMD close to my heart, because I grew up in Rockville, MD. Anyhow you can go to any school at anytime and have the credits ...(Answered by nustche)

Q.
How can college students afford spring break?
I'm paying my own way through college and have always worked. I don't take time for luxuries like summer vacation or spring break. How is it that the vast majority of college students (it seems) don't hold a job and still go on spring break? Rich parents, irresponsible debt, credit cards, savings? Legislators and the public have a hard time being worried about college costs when so many students spend reckless money, no? ... (Asked by jimbad05)

Some save or use tax refunds. Others take extra student loans to cover the vacation(hey you don't have to pay for it for 4 years). Still others use parents or significant others' money. Some just take cheap vacations. The problem with reckless spending is that they are able to take way more than they need and many get rear ended with it after they are finished with college....(Answered by nevyn55025)

Q.
UCSD vs. Spring 2008 Berkeley?
I got into UCSD as a fall admit and into UC Berkeley as a spring admit. My major is biomedical enigneering. I know SD is nearly as good as Cal for biomed but I also know that Cal is just more prestigious. My only worry is that Berkeley might be too competitive for me. My Stats: UC gpa: 4.2 Sat: 2280 Sat 2: Bio 760, chem 750, math 780 I'm not the kind of student who understands things w/out even studying...I have to put in a lot of time and effort into my work to get good grades. Also, Cal is really close to home for me (which ... (Asked by anxiousgirl123)

Berkeley has a better academic reputation, so no matter which major you end up choosing, you'll have the recognition of being a Cal grad. But you'll get a fine education at either campus, so you should consider your personal preference and any financial concerns....(Answered by Ms. Sun)

Q.
I'm applying for Medical school next spring... do I have too many transcripts?
I'm applying to medical school next spring. I recently transferred out of my original college and am currently taking courses at a community college until I am accepted into my desired University this summer. (This is 3 transcripts). Here's my question, I want to take the MCAT in the spring, and to do this I need to take 2 courses this summer. These courses are not offered in the summer at the University I am planning to attend. Would it look specious to a med school admissions team to see a 4th transcript form a college ... (Asked by ~Brigit~)

Does your new college not have these? 4 can be if you have a good reason for them. However, it looks like you're taking them at community colleges because they're much easier there. That's not going to look good to med schools. It's not really the number of transcripts, it's why there are so many transcripts. A good reason would be if you had already graduated, changed your mind and decided to do medicine, but had to take the prereqs at various CCs cuz your undergrad won't let you come back to take more classes. Legitimately had to ...(Answered by Linkin)

It depends on the amount of available spaces the school has available at any given time. They didn't have enough spaces to admit you in the fall, so they offered you a spring admission, after some students had graduated out after the fall semester....(Answered by Bozema)
