What's the point of essay tests ? When I went to a university, I had to take an essay test almost every time I turned around . Being able to successfully take an essay test is the most useless ability on the planet . Nobody needs to take an essay test once they get out of school, and if ... (Asked by mike_mcallister37) |

| The point of essay tests is to prove that you can put your thoughts together coherently enough for other people to understand. Believe it or not, this is an important tool of communication. Not only that, but some jobs do require putting together and writing reports, sometimes on a very tight schedule....(Answered by ar5) | |

Ohio Graduation Tests for 10th, 11th and 12 graders? If you live in Ohio and you know what these tests mean, then talk about your experience. My 10th grade daughter took these tests 2 weeks ago, said she didn't know 90% of the questions(was never taught in daily classroom time, they were given a 3 page handout for science section of test. she said there was no question on test related to anything on those 3 pages. this is so frustrating to her and I. she has a tutor in 2nd period but all she can do is read the question different ways-my daughter still didn't understand. then a ... | I don't know about the Ohio tests, but we have a similar one in Texas. They have previous years' tests available on-line and they make study books for them. Start by asking the school counselor about a study book. Then go to your state's department of education web site and seach for released tests. Usually on these tests, they have the same "type" of question from year to year, so studying old tests helps you prepare for this year's test. Have you expressed your concerns to your daughter's classroom teachers? They might be able to furnish ...(Answered by DLM)

SAT Subject tests? I want to take an SAT subject test on May 5th (which is the next possible test date) because I'm in AP biology and hopefully by May 5th I'll be done preparing since I'll have the AP exam within a week afterwards. The college board reccomends to take subject tests after the completion of a course so the material stays fresh in the mind. I have a college class that I can't really miss...it begins at 8 AM and ends at almost 12 PM. I know the College boards allows three tests per day, so obviously the tests must be ... | Depends on what time your college class is. If its at 10 or after I'd say your relatively safe. What you'll have to do is sign up only for one test, the bio exam. Testing should start around 8:15 (they allow time for late people to show up/everyone to get to the right room) and I'd give another half hour for registration/ filling all your info out on the answer sheet. So at roughly 8:45 you'll start the hour long first test, bio, and at 9:45 they'll call time and let anyone only taking one test leave. Best of Luck...(Answered by MSF100)

Aren't all academic tests biased? This is not meant to be a trick question, but couldn't it be argued that all academic tests are biased because those who are equipped to do well on them-regardless of the reason-are more likely to do well on them than those who are not as well equipped, including the ability to cheat on said test, since although the test creators may not predict this as an intervening variable, the purported measure that the test is supposed to determine, is not necessarily a reliable predictor of what the actual test measures, and although some people might say this contradicts "test ... | Let's see if I have read this correctly. "Tests are biased because some do better on them than others." This would only be called bias if certain groups tended to do better than other groups. "Tests are biased because some people cheat and this is an intervening variable." If a person has cheated, the test has measured nothing and the score is worthless--which has nothing to do with bias. "The purported measure that the test is supposed to determine is not necessarily a reliable predictor of what the actual test measures." You have mixed validity with ...(Answered by Samantha)

Collegeboard SAT Practice Tests? Hi there! Does anyone have any particular experience with the scores they got on the Collegeboard SAT Practice tests as opposed to the real SAT they took? For example, lets say you took a SAT practice test from Collegeboard and got the following results: CR: 600 Math: 550 Writing: 610 When you took the real SAT and recieved your scores within two weeks, were your scores identical to your practice test scores, or were they completely and outrageously different? | i had previously taken two practice tests, with the scores of 1950 and 1930. When I took the real exam though, i only got a 1900. I think you should expect to do lower on the real one because of the pressure of time and the nervousness you might feel. But it shouldn't be too far off. Anyways, it's best to take it as many times as you can so that you can then send your best score to the colleges you want to go to....(Answered by blakeheller)

Don't you think that tests are pointless sometimes? Sometimes, I really feel that there's no point in them. When we take a test, we only have to memorize the information for a short while, just long enough to take the test. We can look over it just before the test, or the night before and still get a 100. It doesn't really measure your knowledge. I mean, I get 100s on a lot of tests because all I have to do is memorize, but it's pretty pointless. You barely have to know any concepts, because you just go over everything in class. ... (Asked by I'm not telling you!) |

| That may be true, but how else are you to be evaluated? The point of a class is, after all, to learn the material. It wouldn't be worth anything to evaluate people on the basis of effort alone, because, at the end of the day, who cares how much effort you put into it? Now, that's not really true of course - people do care how much effort you put into it. But the material is important too, and why would you put in effort if you're not tested on the material anyway? The fact is, that if people are not ...(Answered by Gary B) | |
