How do I transition from teaching to another job field? I graduated with my bachelor's in Early Childhood Education and have realized that teaching is not really what I enjoy. Although I am still trying to decide what else interests me my problem is the transition into another career field. In the next few months I will need to find something to pay the bills with decent pay and would like to make it work into a longer career but I know that may not happen. Has anyone gone through this process with their decision not to teach?....If so what worked for you and what steps did you take to ... (Asked by debra s) |

| Did you actually get your teaching certificate? Is it the teaching you don't want or the early child thing? Before obtaining a degree, I changed my mind. Currently I am looking into working in Art therapy, instead of art education. I just took fields of work that remotely interested me, and started researching them.(making stops in art history, nursing, etc) Eventually I found something that seemed to fit. Maybe try to find something to apply some of your current credits to by talking ot an advisor.(If you are planning on returning ot school)...that's all i really ...(Answered by kellylikestodance) | |

| For Algebra II, brush up on your Algebra I skills. You need a solid foundation in equations and graphing to do well in Algebra II. It also helps if you are good at factoring and simplifying expressions. You do not technically have to have geometry before you take Algebra II because geometry is a different branch of mathematics. The most important thing is good basic algebra skills. If you get stuck on homework, try posting on mathgoodies.com because they are good about giving you step-by-step instructions on how to solve problems. Good luck!...(Answered by DLM) | |

Help for a not so typical "problem child"? I am teaching right now in 4th grade and have a student who LOVES to read. He will read any chance he gets- what a problem, right? Well, the main problem is that his reading will occur during math, cursive, transition periods, etc. He gets absorbed into his books and only comes back to reality after I call his name 3 or 4 times. He is doing fine in these other subjects, and I don't mind that he reads except that he never finishes work unless I stand right by him. And when we do ... (Asked by Janet R) |

| I am currently a PhD candidate at a University. A good percentage of our Masters students are currently teachers working towards something better. Because I've never taught at the high-school level, it's difficult for me to talk about benefits. I did substitute teach, though, and I think I can give you the following benefits of teaching at college: 1) You only teach a few days a week - there's no babysitting. If you finish class early one time, you can just send them out. 2) Discipline is not a problem. If a child is acting out, you ask them to kindly leave your ...(Answered by rattlesnake1221) | |

Is it difficult to transition from a teacher to a school admin. worker? I'm considering becoming a full-time teacher but I'm wondering how difficult it would be to go into administration in the future. I really enjoy working with kids, so I can see myself doing that for maybe 10 years or so. After that long, I know I'd want to get paid more and do different things within the school. I have my bachelors degree and I'm wondering if a masters in secondary ed. would be a viable degree for going into administration later; becoming a vp, principal, etc., or would it exclude me from doing administrative-type work (I ... | The degree you need to be a school administrator is educational administration and supervision. Some states offer a certification in administration that does not require all the classes needed for a Masters. It is not difficult to become an administrator if you have exemplified high quality teaching and leadership as a teacher. School administration does offer more pay; however, it requires much more time also. It is a stressful job that is 24 hours a day. But it is a rewarding job that allows you to have a powerful positive effect on larger numbers of ...(Answered by OTOTW) | |

| Substitute teaching would get your feet wet, but you will probaby need to go back to college. THere are so many more qualifications for teachers today then there were just 5 years ago thanks to things like NCLB (No Child Left Behind). You could probably easily get into a Master's of Education curriculum at your local college/university and be teaching in less than two years. Most likely you will need to take at least one of the Praxis tests (basically like an SAT but for teachers). I'm not really sure how that works with someone who ...(Answered by a6stringjedi) | |

| First, look for internal promotion opportunities. Could you become the head of the X department within your current school or at a new school in your district? In that position, you would be able to take on some curriculum leadership responsibilities while staying in the classroom. Once you've demonstrated that kind of initiative, jobs outside the classroom from the Board/Ministry of Education and/or the school district would be more within your reach. Those jobs are normally advertised in trade newsletters and on the websites of the respective agencies....(Answered by Jetgirly) | |
