| YES and NO.... ok I had gone thru a similar situat. my "first year" I actually only went to 2 classes and couldnt go n e more because I didnt have childcare. I didnt withdraw either but it had no bearing on the next year. I had to pay back about $150 (it came directly out of my income tax return.) That only effects how much you must pay back, not if you should be eligible the next year. Yes, you may have to pay some back, but prob not all. My sister has gotten the pell grant 3 diff ...(Answered by darkstar32822) | |

Need Help To Dispute Credit Report? Situation: I went to a college in NYC in 2002. I enrolled in September, left by October. I had gotten a loan from Bank of America for part of my tuition. When I left the college I cancelled the loan, therefore the school never got the money. However, the school wants the 14K even though I wasn't even there for a semester. When I dropped out the only thing I ever signed was a Withdrawl Form which has nothing regarding being responsible if I left, etc. Is there any way of putting the burden on the college to prove that ... | First thing you need to do is to check the rules of the school. How long did you go? If you went over 4 weeks, you may owe the full tuition. Here is the situation. You went and you owe some money. The student loan did not pay so that leaves you. Sorry that this is bad news but it is honest. Now for the dates, you actually did go into default when the student loan did not pay the bill. Usually the loan will pay after the semester but the debt was due ...(Answered by Nancy S.)

| Most of the time, if you drop from full time to part time status before you finish so much of the class (75% or so ) they will make you pay it back. MO did that to me because I dropped 1 week before I finished 75% of my classes. You will probably have to pay the difference and if you take that class again, fa probably won't pay for it..they will pay for the rest but not that one. GL...(Answered by scrappysmom) | |

Can I use federal loans to pay outstanding TUITION debt? In 1999, I had to withdraw from school due to financial problems. Up until that time, my parents were paying hard cold cash, no loans, for my tuition. At the time of my withdrawl, I owed the school $24,000. I am currently looking to return to the same institution, but owe $24,000. As you know, they have a hold on my transcript so it will be impossible for me to transfer those credits to another school so that option is scrapped. The question is, can I now apply for federal loans and have them applied to the $24,000 debt? ... (Asked by Amanda) |

| Most schools will NOT even let you attend again until your balances from previous sem is paid off. Why did you owe so much..If you do get the loans you get now will cover this sem. fees. Anything you have leftover is for your living costs..if you have $5000 leftover and don't need it to pay rent, travel, etc. and choose to pay it on the debt, you can.. However, I would not pay them too much at a time..If you go in there with a bunch of money then they will think you don't need it for living expenses ...(Answered by scrappysmom) | |

Withdrawing from Semester and Financial Aid? I'm supposed to start college tomorrow, but things have come up in my life right now that I think school isn't top priority at the moment, so I'm thinking of withdrawing from this quarter, but maybe going back in 6-9 months. I've already received the most Financial Aid I could get, so it's all paid for. My question is, if I withdrawl on the first day will they send the financial aid back? And when I want to enroll again in 6-9 months will they give me financial aid again or will they hold it back because I didn't go ... (Asked by Carrie O) |

| I would contact the financial aid office where you were planning on attending and explain your situation. For the most part, it probably depends on what type of financial aid you received. You should still be able to get it when you and your baby are back on your feet. I'm sorry this is happening to you and wish you all the best....(Answered by eehco) | |

Student Loan Question...? When you fill out a student loan application, and they ask for the dates of the "academic period", what dates are they asking for? | They typically are talking about the actual or upcoming year(s) that you are about to enroll in. For example, I have to fill out a financial application called a "FAFSA" and my academic year would be July 2007-July 2008 b/c that is my upcoming year that I am getting aid for. You usually have to do this anually depending on the type of loan and application. So, the latter part of your question is correct...(the dates for that acedemic year that you are allowed to withdrawl that particular loan)...(Answered by MM7)
